Family Therapy and Systemic Practice is an approach to understanding and changing human symptoms and problems that considers the inside and outside world of the person and the relationship between the two. It incorporates the wider system and inequalities due to gender, race, advantage and ability which shape lives and the underpin difficulties which present in therapy.
Bower Place offers training delivered by innovative leaders in the profession committed to excellence and is the only South Australian provider of the Australian Association of Family Therapy (AAFT) accredited Graduate Diploma in Family Therapy and Systemic Practice. We offer hands on, practical learning in our Research Clinic providing invaluable experience for practitioners.
About the courses
Bower Place offers two courses in Family Therapy and Systemic Practice:
- The Graduate Diploma in Family Therapy and Systemic Practice is a 2-year post graduate level qualification and is accredited with the Australian Association of Family Therapy (AAFT). On completion, students are eligible to apply to AAFT as a Clinical Family Therapist.
- Introduction to Family Therapy and Systemic Practice Certificate (Theory and Observation) is a 10-week course which prepares students to potentially apply for General or Professional Membership of the AAFT, having demonstrated an interest and training in the practice of family focussed work.
Who should complete these courses?
The course is suitable for professionals working with children, young people, adults, couples, and families in multiple settings including, mental health and human services, medical, health and education who want to incorporate these theories, skills and knowledge into their practice.
These courses are suited to professionals in the following fields:
- Youth work
- Social work
- Occupational therapy
- General practice
Where could it take you?
Family and Systemic Therapists use evidence based practice to work effectively with children, young people, adults, couples, and families, using research that shows it is an effective method for them to find ways to move forward in their lives.
By working with the patterns of interaction between people and their world, symptoms can be understood and resolved.
